L’or Barista has been gaining a lot of popularity as an alternative Nespresso OriginalLine machines such as Essenza, Pixie, Inissia or CitiZ.
And there’s a good reason for that…
L’or Barista System does more than what Nespresso machines do:
- Espresso shots in 3 serving sizes (1.5 oz, 2.7 oz, 3.7 oz)
- Coffee cups in 3 serving sizes (5 oz, 8 oz and 12 oz)
L’or Barista system is based on Nespresso OriginalLine brewing machines, so for espresso brewing, you can use Nespresso pods. But for coffee, you use L’or exclusive coffee pods.
In this post, I will tell you exactly what can of pods you can use with your L’or Barista system.
Types of Pods L’or Barista Uses
As I mentioned, L’or Barista can make both espresso and coffee. For that, it uses two different type of pods.
- Espresso pods
- Coffee pods, which are larger in size and have more coffee grounds.
Espresso Pods

The L’or Barista machine can brew both Espresso and Double Espresso sizes. For the Espresso size, you will need to use the L’or Espresso pods. These pods are specially designed to deliver a rich and flavorful shot of coffee with a smooth and creamy crema on top.
L’or Espresso pods come in a variety of flavors, including Ristretto, Intense, and Decaffeinated. Each pod contains 5.2 grams of coffee, which is the perfect amount for a single shot of espresso.
You can also use any Nespresso OriginalLine espresso or lungo pods from any brand. As long as it says it’s for Nespresso OriginalLine, you can use it for L’or Barista to brew espresso sizes.

If you prefer a larger cup of coffee, L’or Barista can also brew a full coffee size. For that, you will need to use the L’or Coffee pods. These pods are specially designed to deliver a smooth and well-balanced cup of coffee in sizes 5 oz, 8 oz or 12 oz.
L’or Coffee pods are exclusive to L’or coffee machines. They are larger in size, each pod contains 10 grams of coffee grounds. L’or Coffee capsules can only be used in L’or machines and are not compatible with other Nespresso OriginalLine machines.
L’or Barista Pod Compatibility
So, as I mentioned in the previous section, you can use two type of capsules in a L’or coffee machine:
- Espresso pods (1.5 oz, 2.7 oz, 3.7 oz)
- Coffee pods (5 oz, 8 oz and 12 oz)
If you’re wondering what pods you can use with your L’or Barista machine, the good news is that it’s compatible with any Nespresso Original Line espresso pod. This means you have a wide range of options to choose from, including popular brands like Nespresso, Starbucks, Lavazza, and Illy.
However, when it comes to coffee, L’or Barista uses its own exclusive pods. These pods are designed specifically for the machine and are not compatible with other coffee makers or Nespresso machines.
So when it comes to espresso brewing, L’or barista gives you a lot of diversity in choosing what pods to brew. You are not limited to L’or espresso pods, but any Nespresso OriginalLine pod.
But when it comes to coffee brewing, you will be limited to L’or coffee pods only, which they have in a variety of blends and intensities, but they’re not available from other brands.
L’or vs Nespresso – How Are They Different?
I have a comprehensive guide on the difference between L’or vs Nespresso. But here’s a quick recap:
- Brew sizes: L’or barista can make both espresso and coffee, and offers a total of 6 different cup sizes from espresso to coffee. Nespresso OriginalLine, on the other hand, only offers two cup sizes: Espresso and lungo.
- Compatibility: When it comes to espresso, both Nespresso OriginalLine and L’or Barista can use the same pods from any Nespresso OriginalLine compatible brand. That includes Nespresso’s own pods, L’or’s own pods or any generic or 3rd party brand. But for coffee, L’or uses its own pods only.
As for L’or vs Nespresso Vertuo, which is Nespresso’s own espresso and coffee maker, there is another major difference:
- Nespresso Vertuo uses exclusive pods for all serving sizes from espresso to coffee. Nespresso Vertuo pods are differently shaped than OriginalLine pods, so they’re not interchangeable. Using a Nespresso Vertuo machine means you are committing to buying pods from Nespresso only.
I find L’or Barista’s pod compatibility to be a great middle-ground between versatility and exclusivity. You get to use any espresso pod from any brand, but you’re limited to L’or exclusive coffee pods, which is not a bad deal at all.
Can You Use Nespresso Pods in L’or Barista?

If you’re wondering if you can use Nespresso pods in your L’or Barista machine, the answer is yes! The L’or Barista machine is compatible with any Nespresso Originalline espresso pod, which means you have a wide range of options to choose from.
Using Nespresso pods in your L’or Barista machine is easy. Simply insert the pod into the designated slot and the L’or Barista will activate its espresso menu, so serving sizes will be limited to 1.5, 2.7 and 3.7 oz. It is really that simple.
One of the benefits of using Nespresso OriginalLine pods is the variety of flavors and intensities available. With Nespresso Originalline espresso pods, you can choose from a range of blends and roasts to suit your taste preferences. Whether you prefer a bold and intense espresso or a smooth and creamy one, there is a Nespresso pod for you.
One of the most popular Nespresso OriginalLine pods that you can use in your L’or Barista is Starbucks espresso pods, which many Nespresso fans love for their daily lattes and iced coffees.
Are L’or Capsules Compatible with Nespresso?
If you already have a Nespresso OriginalLine machine, and this can be any model:
Essenza, Citiz, Pixie, Inissia, Lattissima…. or even Nespresso OriginalLine compatible machines from other brands…
Will you be able to use L’or pods in those machines?
The answer is yes. L’or espresso and lungo pods are compatible with any Nespresso OriginalLine machine.
L’or capsules are designed to work with Nespresso machines, and they produce a high-quality espresso that is rich, smooth, and full-bodied.
Using L’or espresso pods with your Nespresso machine works the same way as using Nespresso pods. They are practically the same, only come from different brands.
One of the benefits of using L’or pods with your Nespresso machine is that you can enjoy a wide variety of flavors and intensities for a cheaper price than Nespresso’s pods, which are the most expensive out of all Nespresso compatible brands.
Are L’or Coffee Pods Compatible with Nespresso?

Now let’s talk about L’or’s larger coffee pods, do these work in a Nespresso OriginalLine or even Nespresso Vertuo machine?
No, they don’t. The L’or coffee pods are compatible with L’or coffee machine only.

Although, seemingly, L’or coffee pods look similar to the espresso pods, they are actually slightly larger in size because they contain more ground coffee than the espresso pod. The diameter of the pods is the same, but the coffee capsule has more height to it than the espresso pod.
If you try to use L’or coffee pods that make large coffee servings with a Nespresso machine, they simply won’t fit in because they are larger than Nespresso’s pod slot.
Are L’or Pods Compatible with Dolce Gusto?

No, L’or does not make Nescafe Dolce Gusto pods and their current pods won’t work with Dolce Gusto machines.
Dolce Gusto machines use a unique capsule system that is not compatible with other coffee pod brands. Therefore, if you own a Dolce Gusto machine, you will need to use Dolce Gusto capsules to make your coffee. But Dolce Gusto makes pods in collaboration with brands like Starbucks, for example, so you are not limited to Nescafe’s own coffee.
Can You Use L’or Pods in a Keurig?

If you want to read a full comparison, here’s my guide on L’or vs Keurig as coffee systems.
Keurig machines are designed to work with K-Cup pods, which have a different shape and size than L’or pods.
If you are looking for pods to use in your Keurig machine, there are many options available. Keurig offers a wide range of K-Cup pods in various flavors and strengths, and there are also many third-party brands that offer compatible pods. Keurig K-Cup pods actually have the widest collection of compatible pods, but L’or is not one of them.
