Nespresso Cold Brew Pod Not Working? Here’s Why

Nespresso Troubleshooting Aug 07, 2023

If you’ve recently purchased the Nespresso Cold Brew Style pod but it’s not working in your Nespresso Vertuo machine, this post is to help you understand why

Why Your Nespresso Cold Brew Pod Won’t Work

One of Nespresso Vertuo Iced coffee pods is the Cold Brew Style Intense pod, which is designed to make Cold Brew style coffee. It’s a 12 oz XL coffee pod meant to brew over ice.

The reason Nespresso Cold Brew Style Pod is not brewing in your Nespresso Vertuo is because you’re most likely using the wrong Nespresso Vertuo model.

Nespresso Cold Brew Pod is compatible ONLY with: Nespresso Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop and Vertuo Creatista and Vertuo Lattissima.

If you’re using a Nespresso Vertuo, VertuoPlus or Evoluo, the Cold Brew pod won’t work.

What Is Cold Brew Nespresso Pod

Nespresso Cold Brew Style Intense pod, just like its name refers, is inspired by the Cold Brew method.

Traditionally, Cold Brew coffee is made by brewing coarse coffee grounds in room temperature or cold water over night. But Nespresso uses its own style to create a similar coffee but in a minute.

The Cold Brew Style pod by Nespresso is a 12 oz serving size. It works by brewing hot to extract most of the coffee flavor, then it starts to use room temperature water (Which is the water temperature in the reservoir) for the rest of the brew.

How To Brew Nespresso Cold Brew Pod

This pod works just like any other pod. Insert the pod in your Nespresso Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop or Vertuo Creatista and start the brewing process.

Nespresso recommends that you add 4 ice cubes to the cup before brewing and let the coffee brew over the ice. You can add additional ice cubes to chill the coffee.

Nespresso recommends this exact recipe for the Cold Brew pod:

“For the best experience, use cool water (below 10°C / 50F) in your Vertuo Creatista, Vertuo Next or Vertuo Pop+ water tank and add 3-4 ice cubes to your coffee. 12 fl oz (355 ml) = 2 servings of 6 fl oz (172.5 ml).”

How Much Coffee Ground in Nespresso Cold Brew Pod

Each Nespresso Cold Brew Style pod contains 13 grams of coffee ground, which is enough to make a robust and delicious 12 oz of coffee.

Each pod will cost you $1.25 and you’ll receive 10 pods per sleeve (box).

Can You Make Cold Brew in Nespresso Vertuo Plus?

As you know by now, Nespresso Cold Brew pod works exclusively in Nespresso Vertuo Next, Vertuo Pop or Vertuo Creatista.

So how can you make cold brew in other Nespresso Vertuo machines?

You can’t use the Cold Brew pod, but you can use the Ice coffee pod instead. Which will brew over ice just like the Cold Brew pod, but it smaller volume.

Nespresso Cold Brew Pod vs Nespresso Iced Coffee Pods

All Nespresso Vertuo machine can brew Nespresso’s line of Over Ice coffee like Ice Forte and Ice Freddo.

Nespresso Cold Brew pod is an XL coffee pod, 12 oz in serving, which is a serving size exclusive to newer Vertuo machines like Vertuo Next and Vertuo Pop.

Nespresso Ice Forte and Ice Leggero are part of the Nespresso Barista Creations collection, which works for all Nespresso Vertuo machines.

Nespresso Ice Forte is a 7.7 mug serving size, which is recommended to enjoy as a black iced coffee. And Nespresso Ice Leggero is a 2.7 oz double espresso serving, meant to be enjoyed with milk. But of course, you’re always free to create your own recipes with these delicious pods.

How Ice Nespresso Pods Brew

Whether it’s the Cold Brew pod or the Ice coffee pod, they all brew hot over Ice. They start by brewing hot then drop slightly in temperature to cool the beverage down.

Nespresso recommends that you brew these pods in a cup full of ice, then add additional ice to your liking after to chill it even more.
