Vertuo are Nespresso’s espresso and coffee machines that use proprietary pods designed just for them.
If the Nespresso pods you are trying to use in your Vertuo are too small, then you most likely using the wrong pods for your machine.
Below, you’ll find photos of the correct pods for Nespresso Vertuo and what the small pods look like.
The Right Pods for Vertuo
Nespresso Vertuo pods are completely different from other pods.
They are larger, dome-shaped, and have a barcode around the rim to allow the machine to recognize the brew size for the pod.
If you want pods from another brand, the only one available is from Starbucks Coffee, which is a licensed collaboration between the two brands. No other brands are allowed to make Vertuo pods just yet.
Nespresso Original Pods Are Too Small For Vertuo
On the right is the Vertuo Pod that should fit your machine. On the left is the small pod you might be trying to use.
That’s an espresso pod for smaller Nespresso Original machines like CitiZ, Inissia, Essezna, Pixie, or Lattissima machines.
Unlike Vertuo machines, Nespresso Original pods are available from 3rd party brands in addition to Nespresso’s brand.
As you can see, the small Nespresso pod is too small to fit the Vertuo pod holder. The pod won’t stay in place and won’t get punctured if you close the lid, so it can’t be used to brew coffee.
Dolce Gusto Pods Don’t Fit Vertuo Machines, Too
Another small pod that gets mistaken for a Nespresso pod is the Dolce Gusto pod.
The reason for this mix-up is the fact that Dolce Gusto comes from the same parent company, Nestle, and the pods look like they can fit.
But the truth is, Dolce Gusto pods are a different shape and they won’t work on any Nespresso machine, Vertuo or Original.
Nespresso Vertuo Pods Are Different Sizes But Are Shaped The Same
One of the best things about Vertuo machines is their ability to brew up to 4 to 6 serving sizes, depending on the model you choose.
Each one of these serving sizes has a different pod. So, Vertuo uses several pod sizes, however, the shape of the pod remains the same.
For every cup size, the pod’s dome is slightly higher to allow it to hold more ground coffee. But the diameter of the pod remains the same, so all of them fit the machine perfectly.
