The DeLonghi Dedica is one of the most popular entry-level espresso machines out there. It’s affordable, compact and easy to use. So it checks the mark for everything you need, especially if it’s going to be your first espresso machine.

DeLonghi has now taken the Dedica line a step further with the updated Dedica Duo model by adding a Cold Brew Extraction technology to allow you to make a refreshing cup of cold coffee with a press of a button.
In this post, I’ll focus on the Cold Brew feature of the Duo, and if it’s worth it to buy the Duo over the original Dedica. (Quick hint: it’s worth it!)
Features of the DeLonghi Dedica Duo

This is a simple yet powerful version of the DeLonghi Dedica. You get:
- A semi automatic espresso machine with preset single and double shots (you can reprogram them to your liking).
- A pressurized portafilter that makes it easy to get a great shot of espresso right away.
- a steam wand to heat and froth your milk for a cappuccino or latte.
- A new control panel with colored icons. The updated press controls give the machine a more modern look.
The Cold Brew Extraction of the DeLonghi Dedica Duo

If you’re thinking of buying the Dedica Duo, it is probably because you are wondering about this feature which no other espresso machine of this price level has (as of the time of writing)
Cold Brew Extraction technology is not new to DeLonghi. It is a feature that it equips its more expensive super automatic coffee machines, like the Magnifica Evo, with.
So the fact that DeLonghi now added this feature to a compact espresso machine like the Dedica Duo is quite impressive!
What Does Cold Brew Extraction Do?
This feature delivers a long cup of cold brew coffee by bypassing the heating element and brewing the coffee at a low temperature.
What this means is that the coffee is not exposed to heat like regular espresso. So it comes out bolder in taste. It also takes longer time, around 3 to 5 minutes to brew a full cup. So you get a really rich and bold cup of coffee that won’t taste watered down when mixed with ice.
Does the Cold Brew Extraction make the Coffee Cold?
One of the main misconceptions of Cold Brew extractions is that the coffee will come out iced or cold. No, it won’t.
What the Dedica Duo does is shut down the thermoblock so it won’t use boiling water to make the Cold Brew. The coffee will come out at room temperature or slightly warmer. And because of that, it will cool down immediately when ice is added, and it won’t melt the ice.
Who Should Buy the DeLonghi Dedica Duo
This is a nice, affordable and compact espresso machine that goes the extra mile to give you the great feature of Cold Brew Extraction too.
If you enjoy espresso drinks, creamy coffee recipes and iced coffees, this is definitely for you.
Should you buy the Dedica or Dedica Duo?
As I’m writing this, there’s a small price difference between the older Dedica model and the Dedica Duo model (less that $30). So it only makes sense that you buy the new Dedica Duo, even if you don’t plan on using the cold brew feature.
Things to Keep In Mind
The Dedica Duo, like any other espresso machine, will require some learning curve on your part, especially if it’s going to be your first espresso machine.
The coffee maker itself is very easy to use. It espresso shots are preset so you can get consistent results. But the steam wand will need some patience and practice before you can create the perfect consistency for your lattes or cappuccino.
Also, if you prefer to buy your coffee whole beans, you’ll want to pair the machine with a coffee grinder. Otherwise, the included portafilter is designed to create a great shot using pre ground coffee.
