DeLonghi Dinamica vs Dinamica Plus [The Plus Version Wins]

DeLonghi Espresso and Coffee Machines Nov 09, 2023

The Dinamica is one of DeLonghi’s popular super-automatic espresso machines with easy push-button controls and a built-in grinder.

The great thing about DeLonghi Dinamica is that there’s a model for every budget and need. And that’s exactly how you can pick between the Dinamica and Dinamica Plus.

In this guide, I will explain the differences between the Dinamica and Dinamica Plus (LatteCrema Versions)

Key Differences

Both models offer the core features in terms of brewing, built-in grinder, hopper capacity, and LatteCrema frother. The difference is in the user experience and automation:

Dinamica with LatteCrema has a touch button control panel with a basic LCD display.

Dinamica Plus has a colored touchscreen for all preset coffee drinks, smartphone connectivity, saved profiles, and more.

– If you are looking for the best budget-friendly option, you can select the Dinamica with a classic steam wand instead.

Technically, the main difference is the touchscreen display. But more advanced features can make a difference in your experience. So keep reading to learn more.

DeLonghi Dinamica vs Dinamica Plus – The Differences

I will start with the differences from most important, or one that would make the most difference in your user experience, to least important.

Coffee Drink Menu

Since both coffee machines have a built-in milk frother, you can expect press-button preparation for all coffee drinks, including milk-based ones.

The only difference is the ‘Coffee Pot’ option, which isn’t something many people are looking for in a super auto. These machines are designed to make single servings of coffee drinks. So don’t expect a serving of 30 oz coffee to taste as good, simply because the machine’s group head can’t handle enough ground coffee for that much serving.

While both Dinamica and Dinamica Plus have the same menu of coffee drinks. The experience the Dinamica Plus offers in customizing and saving recipes is a lot nicer and more intuitive.

Display and Controls

When it comes to the display and controls of the DeLonghi Dinamica and Dinamica Plus, there are a few notable differences to consider.

The Dinamica model features a simple, user-friendly control panel with backlit buttons and a clear LCD screen. The buttons are logically arranged and labeled, making it easy to select your desired drink and customize the settings to your liking. The display shows all the necessary information, such as the drink type, strength, and temperature.

The Dinamica Plus, on the other hand, boasts a more advanced control panel with a larger, high-resolution colored touchscreen display. The intuitive interface allows you to scroll through various drink options, adjust the settings, and even store your favorite recipes for future use. The display is crisp, bright, and easy to read. You’ll also find an icon to illustrate each coffee recipe, which I find extremely helpful.

The Dinamica Plus is the clear winner here. Not only the colored display is helpful in terms of making your coffee recipes and customizing them, but also helps in troubleshooting any issues or programming the settings of the machine, making your overall experience more pleasant.

Programming and Customization

On both the Dinamica and Dinamica Plus, you can customize:

  • Coffee Strength (5 settings)
  • Coffee Volume

These are easily done by selecting a button on the control panel. This feature works the same in both models.

Reprogramming and saving your coffee recipes work differently, though.

On the Dinamica, you’ll find an option called MyMenu, which allows you to save a personalized recipe and recall it by selecting that button. There’s a selection for every single drink, and customizing each one of them takes a lot of time and effort.

The Dinamica Plus, on the other hand, has 3 user profiles and can save multiple customized recipes. The menu on the Dinamica Plus is smart, too. It actually recognizes your most requested coffee recipes and lists them first. This way, you don’t have to scroll through to find your favorite recipe.

Customizing your coffee recipes on the Dinamica Plus is a breeze when compared to the Dinamica’s limited screen. And if you choose to use the app, it gets even easier.

De’Longhi Coffee Link App Functionality

This is a feature that is available on the Dinamica Plus only. It allows you to connect your machine to your phone, and by using an app, you get to customize your recipes and save them, create user profiles, and more.

You also get to brew your coffee remotely. And I understand how gimmicky this sounds. But it’s an option that’s available to you at no extra cost and it’s always nice to have!

If there’s one thing I’d use this app for, it’s definitely to easily and quickly reset or reprogram coffee recipes and user profiles.

Because of its capability to create and save profiles, the Dinamica Plus is a great choice for a small family or for office use where different users are going to frequently use the machine.

Design & Build

The DeLonghi Dinamica and Dinamica Plus coffee machines share a similar design with a sleek and modern aesthetic.

The machines are constructed using high-quality plastic materials. The primary difference between the two models is the color scheme, with the Dinamica Plus featuring a black and gray finish, while the Dinamica comes in silver and black.

The DeLonghi Dinamica measures 9.3″D x 16.9″ W x 13.7″ H and weighs just over 20 pounds. Despite its small size, it can still accommodate up to 10 ounces of coffee beans in its hopper and 60 ounces of water in its tank.

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is slightly larger than the Dinamica, measuring 9.3″ x 16.9″ x 13.7″ inches and weighing just under 25 pounds. It shares the same bean hopper capacity and water reservoir as the Dinamica.

I find both Dinamica and Dinamica Plus to be equally nice in design. They look quite similar, with the only difference being the display screens.

Why The Dinamica Plus Is Worth Its Price

With both Dinamica and Dinamica Plus, you get the value of their price.

Dinamica is the less expensive option here, and that is reflected in its basic LCD display and limited coffee drink menu.

But is the Dinamica Plus worth the extra money? Only in the following circumstances…

  • If the coffee machine is going to be shared by several users, you’ll love having the ability to save customized recipes under profiles.
  • If you’re a beginner, or someone who prefers to take the guesswork out of the process. Having a colored screen is a lifesaver. Not only in making and customizing your coffee drinks but also when it comes to regular machine maintenance. The screen guides you step-by-step on what you need to do.

When To Choose the Dinamica Instead

If you’re happy with the defaults, or limited customization of your coffee. Or if the machine is not in a shared place and having user profiles is not important to you, you’ll be happy with the Dinamica while saving on the price difference.

If the advancement of app connectivity or a touch screen doesn’t appeal to you, then don’t overpay for them and go for the Dinamica instead.

Both of these machines share a set of features that make the quality of beverages consistent between them. They use the same components and brewing mechanisms to extract espresso and coffee, so the quality is the same.

Built-in Grinder with Bypass Doser

DeLonghi Dinamica models have a built-in grinder with 13 grind settings and a 10 oz bean hopper capacity.

They also feature a bypass doser that you can use if you want to switch from your regular beans and use pre-ground coffee.

LatteCrema Milk Frother

Both Dinamica and Dinamica Plus come with DeLonghi’s LatteCrema automatic milk frother.

This is a patented frother that DeLonghi uses in all their super-automatic coffee machines. It’s a detachable frother, easy to use and clean. It is dishwasher-safe, too.

You can froth any type of dairy or non-dairy milk in LatteCrema, but your results will vary depending on the fat content of your milk. Full-fat milk always performs best.

Common Coffee Recipes

Espresso, coffee, cappuccino, and latte are the most popular coffee drinks and they’re readily available with a press of a button on both Dinamica and Dinamica Plus.
