Whether you just purchased the Philips 4300 or planning on buying on, understanding each drink option will help you make the right coffee cup.
Drink options on Philips coffee machines, or most super automatic coffee machines, can be quite confusing. Philips 3200 Americano vs Coffee is an example of that.
In this guide, I will break down the differences and explain the drink options on Philips 4300 and Philips 4300 LatteGo, as both have a slightly different menu.
You’ll understand the difference between:
- Espresso vs Coffee vs Caffe Crema
- Cappuccino vs Latte Macchiato vs Cafe Au Lait
The differences between each of these coffee drinks will surprise you. It’s all the matter of coffee to water ratio or milk to coffee ratio in the LatteGo drinks.
Philips 4300 Coffee Drink Options

This is the Philips 4300 model with classic milk frother wand. Because milk frothing is done manually in this model, the drink menu does not include milk based drinks, but only espresso and coffee drinks.
Coffee Drink | Capacity |
Ristretto | 0.75 oz / 22ml |
Espresso | 1 oz / 30 ml |
Caffe Crema | 2 oz/ 60 ml |
Americano | 2 oz espresso + 3 oz hot water 60 ml espresso + 90 ml hot water |
Philips 4300 has presets for Espresso’s most popular drinks:
Ristretto: which is a short pull for an espresso.
Espresso: your classic shot of espresso.
Caffe Crema: traditionally, this coffee drink is topped up with heavy cream. The machine won’t dispense milk to finish this recipe, so instead, it will serve you a Lungo, which you can then manually top up with either frothed milk or heavy cream.
Americano: a classic espresso drink that is made of a double shot of espresso diluted with hot water.

The difference between these three coffee drinks is the ratio:
- Espresso is, by default, a single shot of espresso which is a 1 oz capacity.
- Caffe Crema, can be considered a Lungo in this case, will serve you a 2 oz of espresso.
- Americano, on the other hand, is a double shot of espresso mixed with hot water. The full capacity of this coffee is 5 oz. This is an alternative way to make a longer cup of coffee using espresso.
Philips 4300 LatteGo Drink Options

Since the Philips 4300 LatteGo has an integrated automatic milk frother, it has a different set of coffee menu that includes black coffee drinks as well has milk based drinks.
Coffee Drink | Capacity |
Espresso | 1 oz / 30 ml |
Coffee | 3.7 oz / 110 ml |
Americano | 2 oz espresso + 3 oz hot water 60 ml espresso + 90 ml hot water |
Cappuccino | 2 oz espresso + 2 oz milk + 2 oz Foam 60 ml espresso + 60 ml milk + 60 ml foam |
Latte Macchiato | 2 oz espresso + 5 oz milk + 5 oz foamed milk |
Cafe Au Lait | 3.7 oz coffee + milk |
Philips 4300 Cappuccino vs Latte Macchiato vs Cafe Au Lait
Philips 4300 LatteGo has a variety of milk based coffee drinks, and the main difference between them is the milk to coffee ratio:
- Cappuccino is a classic espresso based coffee drink that is made of equal parts: espresso, milk and foam. In the Philips 4300, the default capacity is 2 oz for each.
- Latte Macchiato is a long milk based coffee drink famous for its famous layered look. This drink has more milk ratio to coffee, so if you like your coffee to be quite milky, you’ll love this one. It is made of 2 oz espresso, 5 oz of steamed milk then topped of with 5 oz of frothed milk.
- Cafe Au Lait is French for “Coffee with milk”. This option will make you a cup of coffee then tops it off with hot milk, no foam.
Philips 4300 LatteGo ‘More Drinks’ Menu
Philips 4300 LatteGo has a button that simply says ‘more drinks’. When you press on it, it will display another set of drinks on the screen. These are:
- Caffe Crema
- Ristretto
- Hot Froth
- Hot Water
Can Philips 4300 Make a Flat White?
No, there’s no preset on the Philips 4300 to make a flat white. A workaround for this, and it won’t be perfect but it’s worth a try, is to brew a double shots of espresso, then do a separate serving of ‘Milk Froth’. When dispensing the milk froth, choose the lowest froth setting and a smaller milk quantity to make a Flat white.
Can Philips 4300 Make Hot Chocolate?
There is no special preset for hot chocolate on the Philips 4300, nor are you advised to add hot chocolate to your machine. Instead, you can simply add the chocolate powder or syrup to your cup then make a serving of milk froth or hot water using your Philips 4300 that can directly dispense into your cup.
Can LatteGo Froth Almond Milk or Oat Milk?
You can add any type of milk, dairy or non-dairy, to your LatteGo. However, the milk froth and volume will vary depending on the type of milk you use.
You’ll have to adjust your coffee recipes slightly to get the volumes you want when using non-dairy milks.
