Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista vs. Keurig’s Rivo Cappuccino and Latte System, How Do They Compare?

Keurig Rivo 500 Cappuccino & Latte System

They do look kind of similar, don’t they? And in some features, they are. But there is one major difference that could make you choose one over the other. We’ve talked about the difference between them in another post about automatic cappuccino makers, but here it is again:

  • Mr Coffee’s Cafe Barista is more of a traditional espresso maker, it uses ground coffee that you load into the portafilter to brew the espresso. On the other hand, the Rivo uses single-serve espresso pods made by Lavazza, and it can only use these and nothing else.

So when choosing between them, you have to consider these facts:

Do you want to use your choice of ground coffee and brew it in a more traditional way or would you prefer using single-serve pods, and keep in mind that you’ll be using one brand only, and that is Lavazza.

What Is The Difference Between Saeco Focus vs. Syntia?

Philips Saeco RI9837_05 Syntia Automatic Espresso Machine

The Saeco Focus and Syntia are actually quite identical when it comes to features. They could be even the same machine, although the Syntia has a few updated design features, like the buttons have been slightly shifted in the control panel, but otherwise, it is the same as the Focus.

If there’s one difference, it’s the fact that the Syntia is available in two models:

The Syntia HD8833/47 which is pictured above, it’s the same as the Focus and it’s available in Black or Stainless steel.

Saeco HD8838_47 Stainless Steel Syntia Cappuccino Machine

The Syntia Cappuccino HD8838/47, which features an integrated milk frother that automatically froths and pours in the milk to your cup. The dial knob allows you to customize your froth.

Saeco Focus vs. Poemia, How Do They Compare?

Saeco HD8325_47 Poemia Class Manual Espresso Machine

Apart from the fact that both espresso makers are made by Saeco, there’s no way of comparing these two. The Saeco Poemia is a small manual espresso maker, it has NO built-in grinder and no customization, whatsoever. So preparing espresso and coffee drinks using the Poemia is fully in your hands. You’ll have to grind the beans using a grinder, preferably a conical burr grinder, and manually brew and froth your milk.

You can read more about the Saeco Poemia by clicking here.

We’ve done the research for you and found you the top super auto espresso machines for the considerable price of under $1000.

Which Should You Choose?

  • If you want an automatic espresso maker but still want to do some of the work yourself. As in control the shot flow, use your own coffee ground, prepare and tamp the portafilter or froth the milk then you’ll want something like the Breville Infuser or DeLonghi Dedica. These machines give you the option of manual and automatic operation. And you can still enjoy some of the coffee preparation tasks.
  • On the other hand, a machine like Nespresso Lattissima Pro is fully automatic and there’s no way of manually adjusting it (except for reprogramming coffee volumes). It also uses Nespresso capsules (as well as Nespresso – compatible capsules) so if you prefer to use your own coffee ground, this is not the best choice for you. Frothing is also completely automatic on the Nespresso Lattissima Pro. This machine is the perfect choice for someone who really wants a one-touch operation.

Philips Saeco RI9752:48 Odea Go Full Automatic Espresso Machine

The Philips Saeco Odea is one of the few reliable super-automatic machines you’ll find priced under $500. While it may lack some of the features of some the higher end models, it still works just as wonderful without breaking your budget.

  • Built-in ceramic grinder – which means it will never rust.
  • Adjustable grind strength.
  • Stainless steel boiler.
  • Pannarello frothing wand (also known as turbo-froth wand) which makes it super easy to create creamy froth.
  • Frothing wand doubles as a hot water dispenser.
  • Adjustable drip tray. Removable water tank for easy refilling.

But here’s where the machine lacks, although it is not a major issue for many people, it does explain the price difference between it and more expensive super-autos:

  • It’s a single boiler machine, which  means you won’t be able to extract espresso and steam/froth milk at the same time. There’s a wait between the two tasks.
  • No programmable settings. Though you can choose your grind settings and strength of your coffee, you can’t program and save your settings.

Other than those two points, the Saeco Odea Go is an excellent super-automatic that will prepare delicious fresh coffee drinks without breaking the bank.

You can read the customer reviews of this machine here.

What Is The Difference Between the Saeco Odea Go vs. the Saeco Talea Giro Plus?

[apc id=”8″]

The Saeco Talea Giro Plus is newer and more powerful than the Odea Go Full. Both have similar basic features like a quiet and consistent built-in ceramic grinder, milk frother, hot water dispenser, same water tank capacity (57 oz – around 1.6 Liters).

The difference between the two machines is in the following:

  • The Odea Go allows you to adjust the volume of the coffee from espresso, lungo and long. The Talea Giro Plus does the same in addition to allowing you to adjust the aroma (how strong/light the coffee is).
  • With the Talea Giro Plus you can use pre-ground coffee. The Odea does not have a bypass doser for pre-ground coffee.
  • The Talea Giro Plus includes the SBS (Saeco Brewing System) option which adjusts the fullness of the coffee brew.
